Most points of interest in Nightreign are straightforward: fight through enemies, beat a boss, and claim a Dormant Power. Blacksmith Villages are different. They include a Smithing Table that lets Nightfarers swap their weapon skill, giving your run extra flexibility especially when you’re trying to tailor your build to a specific Nightlord.
The only catch is that the table won’t work immediately. To use it, you first need to locate a forge flame, which can be easy to miss depending on how the village is laid out.
How to Change Weapon Skill in Nightreign
1) Make sure the village can spawn
The Blacksmith Village can only appear if:
- You select the Balancers or Dreglord expedition
- You do not have Great Hollow Shifting Earth active
Once the expedition loads, open your map and look for the new structure icon—it’s marked with small trees beside the symbol. The village can spawn with different elemental themes, which changes the enemies and boss inside.
2) Find the Smithing Table
When you reach the village, the Smithing Table can appear in one of two main spots:
- On the upper/top side of the village
- Near the lower entrance area
Interact with it and you’ll see a message saying it needs heat from a forge.
3) Locate the forge flame
To activate the table, you need to find the flame source first. You’re looking for:
- A stone fireplace/forge with the flame burned out
- A white light inside it that you can interact with
This forge is usually placed along the paths you take while moving up or down through the village, often slightly off to the side.
Once you interact with the forge and collect the flame, return to the Smithing Table.
4) Swap your weapon skill
Back at the table, you can select a weapon in your inventory and change its weapon skill.
If you’re playing Trios, you only need to collect the flame once—after that, everyone in the group can use the Smithing Table one time each.
After swapping the skill, you’ll also get a chance to revert it if you don’t like the result—but once you’ve locked in (or reverted), you won’t be able to use the table again for that run.
Element matters
Different elemental versions of the Blacksmith Village offer weapon skills aligned with that element. This is especially useful when you need to exploit a Nightlord weakness without relying purely on luck from drops.
