Recently, one Reddit user Short_Satisfaction_9 managed to crank the tension up even further by using console commands (which have now, unfortunately, been hotfixed out) to cobble together a rough first-person perspective.
The first test: messy, but intense
In the first video, the DIY first-person view is clearly not polished. The weapon sway is aggressively bouncy, parts of the character model’s face clip in and out of frame, and climbing ladders looks… pretty goofy.
But once the shooting starts, the jank almost stops mattering because the combat looks insanely intense from this angle.
During one fight, they’re unloading wildly at a pair of Hornets while the squad waits on the extraction lift. And near the end, while taking shots at the Queen, a Leaper suddenly rockets through the air прямо in front of the camera full-on jump scare energy.
The second video: a cleaner view, darker vibes
After adjusting a few settings, the same user uploaded a second clip with a slightly more refined perspective.
“This second test was mainly to see how it feels in darker environments, and mostly against ARC [enemies],” Short_Satisfaction_9 wrote. They also added that they’d love to see a real first-person option one day arguing that being chased by Leapers in first person briefly gives off Dying Light vibes in a way third person just can’t replicate.
Patched for now but maybe not forever
As things stand, Embark Studios has patched out the ability to pull this off via console commands. Still, between the reaction on Reddit and how well the clips sell the sheer terror factor, it wouldn’t be shocking if a proper first-person mode (or option) showed up down the line and judging by the comments, plenty of players would be all for it.
