Yuumi: The Magical Cat

Yuumi is an Enchanter Support whose entire identity revolves around attaching to allied champions. While attached via You and Me! (E), she becomes untargetable (except by turrets) and casts all abilities from her Anchor’s position. Feline Friendship (Passive) rewards her and her Anchor with periodic empowered attacks, heals, and Friendship stacks. Prowling Projectile (Q) fires a steerable missile that deals magic damage and slows — with enhanced effects while attached. Zoomies (W) grants a shield and attack speed to herself, or transfers all effects to the Anchor when attached. Final Chapter (R) channels 5 healing waves for allies and damage-slowing waves against enemies. Yuumi requires a Best Friend system built around Friendship stacks that unlocks bonus effects on each ability. She was released May 14, 2019.

Yuumi is a champion in League of Legends primarily played as Support, classified as an Enchanter (legacy: Support/Mage). She uses Mana (440 – 1324.93 at max level) and deals Magic damage. Yuumi was released on May 14, 2019, and is currently in patch V25.16.

💡 Unique Mechanic: While attached to an ally via You and Me!, Yuumi is untargetable by almost everything in the game. She cannot be targeted by enemy abilities, basic attacks, or most crowd control. This makes her the only champion in League of Legends who can be essentially immune to the enemy team — but at the cost of being entirely dependent on her Anchor’s survival.

🐾 Passive: Feline Friendship

Static Cooldown: 20 – 8 seconds (based on level)

INNATE — Empowered Attack

Periodically, Yuumi’s next basic attack against an enemy champion is empowered to have an uncancellable windup, gain 50 bonus range, and become non-projectile. Upon hitting with this empowered attack — or upon a Prowling Projectile hit, or upon a Final Chapter hit on ally champions while attached — the buff is consumed to heal her for 20 – 120.59 (based on level) (+ 25% AP). If she is attached to an ally or attaches within 4 seconds, that ally is healed for the same amount.

INNATE — Friendship Stacks

While attached to an ally, Yuumi grants them 2 permanent Friendship stacks whenever they kill enemy champions or minions. The ally with the highest Friendship stacks becomes Yuumi’s Best Friend, which empowers her abilities with additional bonus effects while she is attached to them.

💡 Best Friend Priority: Building Friendship stacks on your primary carry — typically the ADC — as early as possible is crucial. Once they become your Best Friend, every ability receives enhanced effects. Prioritize attaching to a consistent farmer over a roaming champion to stack Friendship efficiently.

ACTIVE: Yuumi fires an errant missile in the target direction that deals magic damage to the first enemy hit. If the target is a champion, they are also revealed and slowed by 20% for 1 second.

ATTACHED BONUS: Yuumi channels for up to 1.35 seconds to steer the missile at a slower speed. After being in flight for the same duration, the missile accelerates in its current direction for 0.5 seconds to deal increased damage and apply a stronger slow against champions that decays to 20% over 2 seconds.

BEST FRIEND BONUS: Prowling Projectile always applies its enhanced slow against champions, and hitting a champion grants her Best Friend bonus magic damage on-hit for 5 seconds, increased by 0% – 75% based on the Anchor’s critical strike chance.

Note: Yuumi starts with a skill point in You and Me! — Prowling Projectile instead has 6 ranks.

PASSIVE: While Yuumi is attached, she is untargetable (except by turrets and inbound projectiles) and casts her abilities from the Anchor’s position, empowering them with additional effects.

ACTIVE: Yuumi channels for 0.25 seconds, then dashes to the target allied champion and attaches to them upon arrival, designating them as her Anchor. You and Me! can be recast after 0.5 seconds of the attachment.

RECAST — Change of Plan: Yuumi detaches from her Anchor and dashes to another allied champion to attach to them, refreshing the recast. She will detach automatically if her Anchor dies or under certain circumstances. If recast without a valid target, Yuumi will detach and dash 250 units in the target direction, placing You and Me! on a 0.25-second cooldown if it is not already on cooldown.

Yuumi will be knocked down by any immobilizing or polymorphing crowd control during the dash. You and Me! is placed on a 5-second cooldown if Yuumi becomes immobilized, grounded, or polymorphed.

BEST FRIEND BONUS: Yuumi gains heal and shield power, and her Best Friend gains healing on-hit.

Slow Per Wave10% for 1.25 seconds (stacking to 50%)

ACTIVE: Yuumi and her Book channel for up to 3.5 seconds, during which they are ghosted, to launch 5 magical waves in the target direction.

Allied champions hit by the waves are healed, with each heal instance beyond maximum health being converted into a shield that lasts for 1.5 seconds plus the remaining channel duration.

Enemies struck by the waves take magic damage and are slowed by 10% for 1.25 seconds per wave. The slow stacks and refreshes on subsequent hits, up to a total strength of 50%. Subsequent waves against the same enemy deal 25% reduced damage.

ATTACHED BONUS: Yuumi can steer the direction of the waves if initially cast while attached. Detaching during the channel causes her to lose this steering ability for the remaining duration. Additionally, Feline Friendship can trigger from also hitting allied champions with the waves.

BEST FRIEND BONUS: Final Chapter’s heal to the Best Friend is increased by 30%.

While not attached, Yuumi can move while channeling Final Chapter — giving her rare self-positioning agency outside of an Anchor.

🎯 Strategies and Gameplay Tips

Early Game (Levels 1–6)

  • Attach immediately and stay attached: Your level 1 power is entirely passive — attach to your ADC at the start and start generating Friendship stacks on every minion kill. Your untargetable passive means you contribute just by existing on the right carry.
  • Q poke from safety: Use Prowling Projectile to harass the enemy bot lane while attached. The steerable attached version is dramatically more accurate than the base Q — take your time to aim it at the enemy ADC rather than firing blindly.
  • W mana management: When attached, Zoomies restores mana to your Anchor scaled by their missing mana. Cast it proactively when your ADC is at 40–50% mana to keep them resourced throughout the laning phase without burning your own cooldown wastefully.

Mid Game (Levels 7–13)

  • Best Friend priority: By this point, one carry should be your Best Friend. Every Q you land now applies on-hit bonus magic damage to their attacks for 5 seconds. Coordinate trades around this window — land Q, then your ADC immediately auto-attacks for amplified burst.
  • Detach for Final Chapter positioning: R is one of Yuumi’s rare moments of independence. If you’re attached and the enemy team is clumped, briefly detach, use R from an angle where you can steer the full 5 waves through the group, then re-attach after channeling.
  • Shield the right target: When attached, Zoomies goes to the Anchor, not you. If your ADC is in danger, W immediately — the movement speed from the shield duration can create just enough distance to survive a dive or all-in.

Late Game (Level 14+)

  • R as a teamfight carry: Five waves of healing mean a 5-man teamfight with good Final Chapter steering can output enough heals to effectively undo a full burst rotation. Position the waves to hit as many allies as possible while dragging all 5 instances through the enemy frontline for the stacking 50% slow.
  • Know when to detach: If your Anchor is being focused and will die, detach before they die — you cannot dash to a dead champion and being caught unattached is immediately fatal. Detach proactively and find the next safest Anchor.
  • Feline Friendship timing: Track your passive cooldown and plan your empowered attack windows. The heal from the passive proc is significant in extended fights — using it on a low-health ally via an attached Q or R hit restores meaningful HP that can swing a fight.

❌ Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

  • Staying unattached for too long: Yuumi’s base stats are intentionally low. Walking around unattached is a death wish — you have 25 base armor, 500 HP, and no reliable escape. If you’re not attached, you’re a free kill. Attach within the first few seconds of every fight.
  • Attaching to the wrong champion: Attaching to a frontline tank instead of your carry feels safe, but your Q and R deal magic damage and heal from the Anchor’s position. A tank Anchor pushes you into melee range, wasting your kit’s range advantage and removing your ability to safely steer Q.
  • Firing Q without steering: The base Q fires straight and is easy to dodge. The attached version slows mid-flight and lets you steer — never fire Q if you’re going to immediately move off the channel. Commit to the full 1.35-second steer time to land the accelerated enhanced-damage version.
  • Forgetting Friendship stack management: Friendship stacks only build while you’re attached and your ally kills. If you keep switching Anchors, you dilute your stack count across multiple champions and delay Best Friend activation. Lock onto one carry early and stay committed.
  • Wasting R during solo fights: Final Chapter heals are split across 5 waves over 3.5 seconds. In a quick 2v2 skirmish, most waves miss their timing window. Save R for extended teamfights where your carry needs sustained healing across the full channel duration.

⚙️ Recommended Build and Itemization

Core Items

  • Moonstone Renewer: Heal and shield power stacks feed directly into Zoomies‘ shield and Final Chapter’s healing. Moonstone’s starfall passive triggers on Q hits while attached, creating a rhythm of poke + sustain that keeps your Anchor healthy throughout extended fights.
  • Staff of Flowing Water: AP and ability haste are both direct stat improvements for Yuumi. The passive grants bonus AP and movement speed to allies you heal — including your Best Friend on every W cast, amplifying their damage output alongside your heals.
  • Redemption: A point-and-click emergency heal that functions while attached. When your team is losing a teamfight, Redemption provides AoE healing that stacks with Final Chapter waves. The HP makes you slightly less squishy when forced to detach.

Situational Items

  • Shurelya’s Battlesong: For engage-heavy comps where your carry needs to chase. The movement speed burst from Shurelya’s active helps your Anchor run down enemies after a Final Chapter slow chain sets them up for the kill.
  • Mikael’s Blessing: Against heavy crowd control compositions. Cleansing your Anchor from a stun or root while attached is one of the most impactful plays in the game — the window to do this is narrow, so build Mikael’s when the enemy team has multiple CC chains that can one-shot your carry.
  • Chemtech Putrifier: Against healing-heavy opponents like Vladimir or Soraka. Your Q applies Grievous Wounds through the Best Friend on-hit bonus — building Chemtech means every steering-landed Q spreads anti-heal to the enemy team.

⚔️ Counter Picks & Matchups

✅ Yuumi Counters

1. Sona

Sona lacks burst damage and relies on sustained healing — Yuumi’s attach-and-ignore playstyle means Sona can never efficiently target her, while Yuumi’s Q poke safely chips away at Sona’s low base HP. Best Friend on-hit bonus amplifies the ADC’s damage against Sona’s squishy frame.

2. Lulu

Lulu’s kit is built around polymorph and shield value — but Yuumi’s untargetable passive makes half of Lulu’s tools irrelevant in direct matchups. Yuumi out-sustains Lulu’s poke in longer lanes and her Final Chapter’s stacking slow outperforms Lulu’s disengage in teamfights.

3. Nami

Nami needs to land skillshots to generate value — her Aqua Prison bubble is easy to dodge via You and Me!, and her E empowerment is outscaled by Yuumi’s Best Friend on-hit bonus in extended fights. Yuumi’s mana restoration through W also counters Nami’s intent to punish aggressive resource consumption.

❌ Yuumi is Countered By

1. Soraka

Soraka’s Silence from Equinox disrupts Yuumi’s channel abilities, including the Q steer and Final Chapter. More critically, Soraka’s global ultimate completely negates Final Chapter’s healing output in teamfights — the moment you cast R, Soraka can immediately answer it with a full-team heal.

2. Blitzcrank

Blitzcrank’s Rocket Grab targets the Anchor, not Yuumi. If your ADC gets grabbed and killed, you’re suddenly unattached with 25 base armor and no escape — an immediate death sentence. Blitzcrank punishes poor positioning that Yuumi’s passive normally forgives against other supports.

3. Xerath / Vel’Koz (Poke Mages)

While Yuumi is attached she’s untargetable, but her Anchor takes the full brunt of poke mage damage. Yuumi’s W shield has a significant cooldown and limited HP — sustained poke burns through Zoomies‘ shield faster than Feline Friendship heals can compensate, forcing constant shield reapplication against well-timed poke patterns.

FAQ

Q: Is Yuumi truly untargetable while attached?

A: Almost. While attached, Yuumi cannot be targeted by enemy basic attacks, most abilities, or crowd control. The exceptions are turret attacks and already-in-flight projectiles that were launched before she attached. This is the core of her survivability — but it makes her Anchor’s survival her only concern.

Q: How does the Best Friend system work?

A: Every time your Anchor kills a champion or minion while you’re attached, they gain 2 permanent Friendship stacks. The ally with the most stacks becomes your Best Friend. While attached to your Best Friend, Q always applies its enhanced slow, Final Chapter heals them for 30% more, and You and Me! grants bonus heal/shield power and healing on-hit.

Q: Can Yuumi move during Final Chapter?

A: Yes — when not attached, Yuumi can freely move while channeling Final Chapter. However, she loses the ability to steer the waves. When attached, she can steer the waves by rotating her view but cannot move independently. Detaching mid-channel also removes steering for the remaining duration.

Q: Does Zoomies‘ shield go to Yuumi or her Anchor?

A: When attached, Zoomies‘ shield and all effects are transferred entirely to the Anchor, not Yuumi. Yuumi receives no benefit from the cast while attached. This is why detaching briefly to shield yourself in an emergency is sometimes a valid tactical decision.

Q: Is Yuumi a good champion for beginners?

A: Yuumi is beginner-friendly in terms of staying alive, but genuinely difficult to play optimally. The ability to steer Q, manage Friendship stack investment, time Feline Friendship procs, and make You and Me! detach/attach decisions correctly all require game knowledge. She has one of the highest learning curves among supports despite her low difficulty rating.
