Fortress Speranza

Speranza is the main underground city and humanity’s last safe haven in the world of ARC Raiders. After the surface of Earth was overtaken by mechanical ARC units, this underground metropolis became home to thousands of survivors who found shelter from the terraforming threat above.

What is Speranza and why is it important?

Speranza is the Raiders’ home between runs: a safe hub where you return after every trip Topside. Because the ARC threat dominates the surface, humans have built a new life in the relative safety below ground—making underground shelters the only place people can live without constant pressure from mechanical predators.

The name “Speranza” comes from Italian and means “hope”—a fitting symbol of human resilience in a post-apocalyptic world.

Geography and location

Speranza is located in the Rust Belt region, strategically placed deep underground within a vast network of densely inhabited tunnels and chambers. This location was chosen for several reasons:

  • Protection from ARC — depth helps prevent detection by mechanical units
  • Strategic position — access to surface zones for raids
  • Natural resources — underground water sources and minerals
  • Defensive advantage — limited entry routes make defense easier

The city was designed as the main launch point for Raiders—those who dare to go topside for scrap, weapons, and high-value materials.

Social structure and population

Speranza functions as the community and economic heart of the underground world with a clear hierarchy.

Your Room & the Raider Den

Speranza provides a small “home” space—cozy might be stretching it. When you arrive, you’ll find a metal cot, worn décor, and a doorframe with a noticeable lack of door.

The Raider Den changes over time based on:

  • Your Raider level
  • Stash upgrades
  • Workshop upgrades

Character, Skill Tree, Trials & Projects

From the progression area you can:

  • Customize your Raider’s appearance
  • Explore the Skill Tree and spend points (1 skill point per level)
  • Review your Trial progress
  • Check on your Projects and their completion status

Codex: Your discovery log

The Codex records what you discover topside and helps you keep track of progress:

  • Logs discoveries and key information from the Rust Belt
  • Lets you review completed quests
  • Shows useful stats and run-related records

Raider Decks: Cosmetics & progression rewards

The Raider Decks are where you spend Cred to unlock cosmetic rewards:

  • Each page contains multiple rewards
  • Unlock enough rewards to advance to the next page
  • The total number of pages can vary between decks

You can also unlock outfits and hairstyles via Raider Tokens or Raider Deck progression.

Key traders and NPCs

Speranza’s economy is driven by its traders—each offering distinct services and gear:

Gameplay loop: How a session flows in Speranza

Every session typically follows this rhythm:

Before a raid

  • Pick up quests (resources, ARC eliminations, deliveries)
  • Set your loadout (Free Loadout vs. your own gear strategy)
  • Choose a map and assemble your team
  • Do a final check on consumables, keys, and mission goals

After a raid

  • Sort loot into your Stash
  • Visit the Workshop for crafting/upgrades and blueprint planning
  • Trade: sell what you don’t need, buy what you’re missing
  • Spend skill points and track Trials/Projects
  • Plan the next deployment

Common mistake: Rushing topside without planning. Time spent preparing in Speranza often decides whether you extract—or get wiped.

City economy

Speranza survives through a rough barter-like economy fueled by Raider success.

  • Scrap and materials from topside runs keep crafting and upgrades moving
  • Coins/Cred/Tokens (as used by different systems) shape storage, cosmetics, and vendor access
  • The more value Raiders bring back, the stronger and more supplied the community becomes

  • Who built the underground infrastructure—and why it’s so extensive
  • The possibility of sealed or future sections of the city
  • Long-term sustainability: resources, expansion plans, and the fate of other survivor groups
