Super minions are the strongest standard lane minions in League of Legends. They are melee, extremely durable, and only appear when a team has already taken a major objective in that lane.
When do super minions spawn
Super minions only spawn in a lane while the enemy inhibitor for that lane is destroyed. When this happens, the super minion replaces the siege minion that would normally spawn in the wave. Super minions spawn at the front of the wave.
On Summoner’s Rift, if all three enemy inhibitors are destroyed, then each lane spawns two super minions per wave (instead of one).
Super minions also stop spawning two waves before the inhibitor respawns, so the lane is not instantly re-crushed the moment the inhibitor comes back up.
Why they are so dangerous
Super minions are built to break bases. Compared to normal minions, they have far higher stats and can quickly push an unprotected lane, forcing the enemy team to respond. If ignored, they can take down structures and create constant pressure that wins games through tempo, not just kills.
They are also always visible through Fog of War, so enemies can track them even without vision.
Damage rules and structure interactions
Like other minions, super minions follow minion structure damage rules, but they also have a special exception:
- Minions generally deal 60% damage to structures and champions
- Super minions specifically deal 12.5% damage to non-turret structures instead
This means they interact differently with certain base structures compared to normal minion damage behavior.
Scaling and upgrades over time
Minions upgrade every 90 seconds. As the game progresses and upgrades occur, super minions can increase:
- maximum health
- health regeneration
- attack damage
- gold bounty
Special effects on super minions
Super minions have two unique built-in “cosmetic item” effects:
Super Mech Armor
Turret basic attacks are modified to deal 7% of the super minion’s maximum health as pre-mitigation damage.
Super Mech Power Field
Nearby allied minions (excluding super minions) gain:
- 35 armor
- 35 magic resist
This makes the entire wave tougher and helps super minions escort their supporting minions deeper into enemy territory.
Rewards and basic stats
- Gold bounty: 50 + 1 per upgrade
- EXP: 75 to 16.27 depending on how many champions share it
- Attack range: 170
- Attack speed: 0.85
- Armor: 100
- Magic resist: -30
- Health scales roughly from 1600 up to 7500 with upgrades
- Attack damage scales roughly from 185 up to 480 with upgrades
ARAM differences
In ARAM, super minions have two special differences:
- Gold bounty is 45 (+ 0.35 per 90 seconds)
- They grant nearby allies 20% bonus movement speed while those allies are out of combat
Quick takeaway
Super minions are the main reason inhibitors matter. Taking an inhibitor turns that lane into a constant pressure tool, because super minions replace siege minions and can overwhelm defenses if left unanswered. When multiple inhibitors are down, the super minion pressure becomes extreme and often forces the enemy team into permanent base defense.
