The Surveyor is an unarmed, spherical ARC machine sealed inside a fully armored shell. Raiders consider it one of the best roaming sources of valuable ARC technology, since it appears to collect measurements and analyses across the surface.
What it does
Surveyors are often seen extending an integrated tool and projecting a blue laser beam into the sky. During this transmission, parts of its armor retract and its vulnerable core becomes exposed. That exposed core is the main kill window.
Once it senses danger has passed, it will usually return to projecting the beam and continue its routine.
Threat response and defenses
The Surveyor detects approaching Raiders quickly. When threatened, it immediately shuts off the beam and rolls away at a speed faster than a Raider can sprint. It strongly prefers to escape, but if it cannot get away it may defend itself by ramming its attacker. The ram deals moderate damage.
In rare cases, Surveyors have been seen rolling off ledges while fleeing, depending on the terrain and angle of escape.
How to destroy it
Killing a Surveyor can be difficult because it tries to disengage instantly. The most reliable approach is to stop its escape while the core is exposed.
Use a stun option such as a Hornet Driver or Showstopper while it is transmitting, then focus fire the exposed core before it can roll away.
As it takes damage, armored panels can break off. These panels can be looted, so staying on it and forcing repeated armor breaks can pay off.

Ammo and damage notes
Heavy Ammo is particularly effective at stripping its armor plating compared to most other ammo types. If you are trying to force panels off quickly, Heavy Ammo is your best tool.

Surveyor Vault
The Surveyor Vault is the Surveyor’s unique drop. It is used to upgrade the Medical Lab, making Surveyors worth hunting even if the fight is mostly a chase.
