The Pop is a small, unarmored ARC suicide unit most often seen accompanying the Fireball. It doesn’t need to win a firefight its entire job is to get close and erase your shields (and a chunk of your health) in one blast.
Combat behavior
When a Pop goes aggressive, it becomes a fast-moving proximity bomb:
- It rapidly rolls toward nearby Raiders
- As it closes in, it emits a beeping sound that increases in frequency the nearer it gets
- Once it reaches close range, it detonates after a short delay, dealing heavy shield and health damage while destroying itself
Important: the Pop does not explode on a simple timer it detonates based on proximity to a target.
Tips for dealing with Pops
The good news: it’s fragile. The bad news: it’s impatient.
- Shoot it early: since it’s unarmored, any weapon can delete it quickly
- Use audio cues: you can often hear it before it’s a threat—the beeps are your warning bell
- Watch key rooms: Pops can spawn behind locked key-room doors and rush out the moment you open them
- Don’t let it path to you: Pops struggle with certain navigation, so you can:
- Vault over edges it can’t follow
- Create distance and force it to chase
- Dodge roll away right as it’s about to “pop” (timing matters)
How to avoid the explosion
- Destroy it before detonation
- Break line / change elevation (vaulting where it can’t navigate)
- Backpedal and widen the gap
- Dodge roll away at the last moment
Role in the world (practical)
Pops are designed to punish complacency especially in tight interiors, doorways, and loot rooms where players tend to slow down. Treat every suspicious beep as a “move now” alarm.
Pop Trigger (unique item)
The Pop Trigger is the Pop’s unique drop and is used to upgrade the Explosives Station, making it worth picking up even if you’d rather never see another rolling beep-bomb again.
